McNeil bought her winning ticket at the Grocery Boy Jr. #39 on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary. Her $1 million prize will be paid out as an annuity--$50,000 minus taxes each August for 20 years. She received her first payment this morning. McNeil is the first player to claim the $1 million prize. She says she will pay bills and relax at the beach with her winnings. The “$130 Million Blockbuster” instant scratch-off game has 10 $1 million prizes along with tens of thousands of other prizes. In addition, toward the end of the game there will be a drawing for one prize of $50,000 a year “for life” with a minimum payout of 20 years*. The NCEL has paid out more than $22.5 million in prizes on the ticket that first went on sale August 5. In the Thursday, Aug. 28, “Carolina Cash 5” drawing, two tickets matched all five white balls to win the $263,930 top prize. This morning, players claimed both tickets. James Peterkin of Apex realized his ticket was one of the big winners the morning after the drawing. He says he was getting ready to drive to Georgia for a Labor Day weekend vacation when he realized he hadn’t checked the winning numbers. Peterkin says he went back inside his house to check the numbers online and that’s when he realized his ticket was worth $131,965! Peterkin bought his winning ticket at the Willow Creek BP on Old Honeycutt Road in Fuquay-Varina. He says the money will go toward education expenses for his children. He added that for fun he may take a cruise vacation. Michele Parker of Elm City and Thomas DeMarco Jr. of Rocky Mount claimed the other ticket worth $131,965 this morning. They often play the lottery together and say that they realized they had won by watching the drawing on television. Their winning ticket was purchased at Wilco #1880 on Highway 58 North in Wilson. Parker plans to buy a new car with her half of the winnings, while DeMarco says he will pay bills with his winnings. Two tickets in the Saturday, Aug. 30, Powerball drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball and are worth $10,000 each. These tickets were sold at Grocery Boy Jr. on New Hope Church Road in Raleigh and Mimi’s on Highway 8 in Lexington. A total of 35,408 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in Saturday’s drawing, ranging from $10,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $291,395. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Wednesday, Sept. 3, Powerball drawing is an estimated $81 million. The NCEL has paid out more than $6.8 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, Aug. 28. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $405,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $1.08 million in prizes.
