Six tickets in last night’s Powerball drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. The normal payout for this combination is $10,000, but one ticket was Power Played. Since the multiplier for the drawing was 3, the ticket is worth $30,000. This ticket was sold at Kangaroo Express #450 on North College Road in Wilmington. The other five tickets were not Power Played and are worth $10,000 each. These were sold at Xpress Mart #19 on Caldwell Creek Drive in Huntersville, Kerr Drug #118 on Sweetwater Road in Robbinsville, Smokers Express #267 on East 11th Street in Siler City, Sam’s Mart #41 on Yorkmont Road in Charlotte, and Food Lion #221 on South College Road in Wilmington. A total of 51,841 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in Wednesday’s drawing, ranging from $600,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $1,068,728. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Saturday, Sept. 20, Powerball drawing is an estimated $154 million. Brahim Almesskine of Clinton had a giant smile on his face when he claimed his $200,000 Powerball prize yesterday at the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) headquarters. His ticket for the Sept. 13 Powerball drawing matched all five white balls to win the top non-jackpot prize. “I’m very, very happy,” Almesskine said. He added that he plans to use the money to take care of his parents and also open a business. Almesskine purchased his winning ticket at R & A Mini Mart on S.E. Boulevard in Clinton. Gary Carter of Siler City almost didn’t buy the instant scratch-off ticket that won him $125,000. He says he saw the “Winning Streak” ticket when checking out at Sunrise Food & Gas on West 3rd Street in Siler City, but decided not to buy it. He left the store, got in his car, but couldn’t stop thinking about the ticket, so he went back inside and bought the $5 ticket. When he scratched it off, the ticket revealed itself to be the top prize winner! Carter said he was speechless when he realized he’d won $125,000. He says he may buy a boat with his winnings. Gerald Garren of Etowah stopped at the Triangle Stop #216 in Hendersonville so his wife could use the restroom. While waiting for her, he asked the cashier to “give him one of the $5 scratch-off tickets.” The cashier sold Garren a ”Green & Gold” instant scratch-off ticket and as he and his wife were heading home, he scratched it to reveal a $100,000 prize! Garren says he will use the money to go on vacation to the Outer Banks. The NCEL has paid out more than $4.3 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Monday, Sept. 15. Also since Monday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $72,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $664,000 in prizes.
