NCEL - POWERBALL JACKPOT ROLLS TO $200 MILLION!

-Powerball Ticket Worth $200,000 Sold in Durham-
-Martin County Man Wins $100,000 Playing “Mega Bucks”-
RALEIGH - Powerball is on a roll! The jackpot for the Saturday, Sept. 27, drawing is now an estimated $200 million!

In last night’s Powerball drawing, one ticket in North Carolina matched all five white balls and is worth $200,000. The ticket was sold at Cruizers on North Roxboro Road in Durham.

Three tickets in the drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. The normal payout for this combination is $10,000. One ticket was Power Played, and since the Power Play multiplier was 5 for the drawing, the prize was increased to $50,000. This ticket was sold at Lowes Food on Central Park Avenue in Pinehurst. The other two tickets that matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball were not Power Played and are worth $10,000 each. These tickets were sold at Wilco on Third Street in Ayden and Sheetz on Wilkesboro Highway in Statesville.

A total of 58,966 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in last night’s drawing, ranging from $200,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $862,119. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Saturday, Sept. 27, Powerball drawing is an estimated $200 million!

Sherrel Parrott of Matthews usually picks her own numbers when she plays “Carolina Cash 5,” but she was in a hurry on Sept. 23 when she stopped by Frazier’s Grocery in Charlotte. Parrott says she asked the cashier for a quick-pick (computer generated) ticket instead, and that night, as she watched the “Carolina Cash 5” drawing on television, she was in disbelief when she saw the numbers on her ticket matched the ones drawn.

Parrott’s ticket matched all five white balls drawn to win the top prize of $375,152! She says she immediately called her son to tell him the news and then drove to his house to double check the ticket. Parrott plans to use her winnings to help her family.

Shelton Selby Jr. of Williamston bought a “Mega Bucks” instant scratch-off ticket at the Wilco on East Boulevard in Williamston and decided to scratch it off at the store. He says he got dizzy when he saw that the ticket was worth $100,000. Selby says his winnings will come in handy—he will be a new father any day now. He also plans to use some of the money to go back to school.

The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $4.3 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Monday, Sept. 22. Also since Monday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won nearly $500,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $656,000 in prizes.
