NCEL - CLAY COUNTY MAN WINS $143,234 PLAYING “CAROLINA CASH 5”
-Two Tickets Sold in Durham and Charlotte Split $115,260 “Carolina Cash 5” Top Prize-
RALEIGH - Johnnie Hinnant Jr. of Hayesville says he felt like he was going to win when he bought a “Carolina Cash 5” ticket for the Oct. 15 drawing. Win, he did, when his ticket matched all five white balls drawn to take home the $143,234 top prize!

Hinnant says he will use the money to pay off his car loan and mortgage, and to help his son fix his truck. He purchased his winning ticket at Aztex #202 on Highway 63 East in Hayesville.

In the Oct. 18 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing, two tickets matched all five white balls drawn and will split the $115,260 top prize. Each ticket is worth $57,630. The winning tickets were sold at E & B Discounts, Inc. on Cheek Road in Durham and Food Lion on Plaza Road in Charlotte.

In the Oct. 18 Powerball drawing, four tickets matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. The normal payout for this combination is $10,000; however one of these tickets was Power Played and is worth $40,000 since the Power Play multiplier was four. This ticket was sold at Kangaroo Express on North William Street in Goldsboro.

The other three tickets were not Power Played and are worth $10,000 each. These were sold at Quik Check on Old U.S. Highway 52 North in Welcome, Quinn’s Supermarket & Hardware on Highway 41 North in Pink Hill, and Kangaroo Express on South Main Street in Mooresville.

A total of 35,365 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, Oct. 18, Powerball drawing, ranging from $40,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $389,854. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Wednesday, Oct. 22, Powerball drawing is an estimated $42 million.

The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $5 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, Oct. 16. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $228,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $567,000 in prizes.
