NCEL - HICKORY MAN WINS $587,361 PLAYING “CAROLINA CASH 5”
-Piedmont Area Family Split $100,000 “Jingle Big Ol’ Bucks” Top Prize-
-“Carolina Cash 5” Ticket Worth $119,556 Sold in Nash County-
RALEIGH - George Baker of Hickory says he nearly fell on the floor in shock when he realized that his “Carolina Cash 5” ticket for the Nov. 5 drawing matched all five white balls to win the top prize of $587,361. Baker says that despite the shock, it was a wonderful feeling to realize he’d won.

Baker purchased his winning ticket at Market Basket on Cloninger Mill Road in Hickory. He plans to use some of the money to pay everyday expenses and save the rest.

Winning the lottery was a family affair for a Piedmont area family. Cynthia Reid of Thomasville, Denise Griffin of Lexington, and Wesley Reid, Hildagene Reid and Francis Reid, all of Greensboro, bought a “Jingle Big Ol’ Bucks” instant scratch-off ticket together and won the top prize of $100,000!

The group of brothers and sisters traveled to Raleigh to the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) headquarters last week to claim their prize together. Among their plans for the money are paying every day expenses and home repair. They purchased the winning ticket at Parker’s News on South Main Street in High Point.

One ticket matched all five white balls in the Nov. 8 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing and is worth $119,556. The ticket was sold at Fuel Doc on South Barnes Street in Nashville. It has yet to be claimed.

In the Nov. 8 Powerball drawing, two tickets matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball and are worth $10,000 each. The winning tickets were sold at Southwood Mini Mart on N.C. Highway 58 South in Kinston and S & D Food Mart on East Garrison Boulevard in Gastonia.

A total of 28,951 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in Saturday night’s drawing, ranging from $10,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $202,207. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Wednesday, Nov. 12, Powerball drawing is an estimated $32 million.

The NCEL has paid out more than $5.2 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, Nov. 6. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $235,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $1 million in prizes.
