Pfafftown woman wins first top prize in $500 Loaded game

Kimberly Ayers of Pfafftown is taking home the first top prize of $200,000 in the new $500 Loaded game.

Ayers had the day off Friday and was out shopping at the Harris Teeter on Robinhood Village Drive in Winston-Salem when she decided to purchase the $5 ticket. Groceries bought and lucky ticket in hand, she headed back to her car and started scratching. When the very first number she scratched revealed the top prize of $200,000, she couldn’t believe it.

“I was absolutely shocked,” Ayers said. “I had to clear my eyes to make sure it was real.”

Ayers says the money will make life a little easier, and plans to use her prize to pay off her bills.

She claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Friday. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $141,501.

The Loaded ticket family launched on Tuesday, with tickets ranging from $1 to $10 and top prizes ranging from $10,000 to $1 million. Ayers won the first top prize in the $500 Loaded game. The $5 game started with 5 top prizes of $200,000. Four more top prizes remain to be claimed.

Ticket sales from games like $500 Loaded make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $21.9 million in lottery funds made a difference in Forsyth county last year, visit the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.

I have a very hard time with the meaning of "loaded" on the new tickets. I figured with N.C. having 100 counties and the $10 ticket has only 928 $5000.00 tickets that is only 9.28 tickets per county but the $5 has 14,274 per county for $500 and that comes out to 142.74 tickets per county. This is not a loaded game considering the duration of the game, go figure!

How many scratch off tickets are not winners? I would like to know. Also, posting the prize amounts should not reflect same purchase price as prize won as winners. Nothing was won if you buy a $30 ticket and get back $30 etc.....NC Lottery
Hi Patrick, To find out how many non-winning tickets there are for a game, you'll need to do a little math. The first math problem will be to multiply the top prize total with the odds of winning the top prize. That will give you the total tickets printed. Then, all you have to do is add up the total prize amounts for each prize level and subtract it from that total. Hope this helps!

What a load of c***. Tickets Suck period. You shouldn't have to buy ten tickets in a row to win something. What happened to the prizes above $50. Someone told me they quit buying tickets years ago because they were tired of wasting their money. NC Lottery
Hi Lisa! Every time you play the lottery, it takes luck to beat the odds. That's true whether you play one ticket or 10. There's only ever a chance to win—never a guarantee. We wish every ticket could win a prize, but prize money comes from non-winning tickets. That's why $1 could win $1,000 or $10 could win $1 million.

I am glad that Kimberly won and congrats to her but I'll not spend another penny of my money on these rip off tickets. have released that are so called loaded LMAO and I have to ok agree with the other getelmen I have seen no decent prize winners within an hour of where I live I guess next u'll say of we don't know where the winning tickets go lol any game that is run by a lottery knows what rolls and where those rolls are sent so in reallity u do control whether bigger city's have them or not u want publicity and where there's more ppl there's more publicity so yes bigger city's are going be where u send the tickets but like me a majority of ppl arround here don't like these ripoff tickets that are loaded change the name so at least ppl who buy them know what there buying I do alot of this cause the money goes to education but I'm just going take what I was spending every week and give it straight to my local school at least then I k now it went to them and I don't get ripped off by false 1 in 4 odds

Congratulations on a great win. Another big winner in the western part of the state Winston Salem. A lot of big winners.This is happening a lot. I went to purchase a few of these tickets and the woman said they were all sold out. Folks are buying this tickets like crazy in Ahoskie nc No big winners. Like I said it's impossible to win be if there are no big money in your area . NC Lottery

Well u can pull those tickets now cause that was only card that was a winner u say odds are 1 in 4.89 or something like that but on 4 different occasions I purchased 10 tickets each time I have gotten one 2 $ winning card and each time was different roll and different store so tell me again what the odds are cause I'm coming up with 1 in 40 so just be honest I'm spend money anyway but u don't have to lie to me NC Lottery
Hi Richard! The odds are set at the beginning of the game when millions of tickets are printed. Odds of 1 in 4 do not mean you're guaranteed to win a prize if you buy several tickets in a row. Winning and non-winning tickets are distributed at random throughout the entire game. Prize money comes from tickets that don't win prizes. We hope your next ticket is a lucky one!
