Guilford County man wins $200,000 on scratch-off

Hem Magar of High Point is pleasantly surprised after winning $200,000 playing $500 Loaded.

Magar bought the lucky $5 ticket at the Pick-N-Go on Eastchester Drive in High Point. He scratched his ticket in the store to find he had won the top prize.

He claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh Monday. After required federal and state withholdings, he took home $141,501.

$500 Loaded launched in May with five top prizes of $200,000. Magar is the second winner to claim the top prize. There are three top prizes remaining.

Ticket sales from games likes $500 Loaded make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $33.2 million in lottery funds made a difference in Guilford County last year, visit the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.

Thank you for your post Dan W. I can't understand why people believe the NCEL is rigging/cheating the games as there's nothing for the NCEL to gain and a lot for them to lose. I think you are right, most people aren't educated in the theory of probability which is why so many people think that it's 'their turn' to win, people winning more than once means the game(s) have GOT to be rigged, and so on. None of those things are true but it certainly makes for some interesting reading.

I enjoy reading the comments posted on here about how the NCEL is scheming to cheat all of you out of money almost as much as taking the CHANCE at buying a ticket. If you are 'expecting' a return on your investment people, you are not educated in the theory of probability. This is a game. It is a game of chance, moreover, a game of probability. It is a game where there MUST be many more losers than winners, otherwise you get a $1 jackpot prize and the schools can't afford to buy a scooter. Cut the folks at NCEL some slack, play the game, dream of hitting it big, but expect that you likely won't. Whether or not you win is all about luck and probability, not where you live, what you earn, the status of your taxes, or the color of your skin. I wish all of you the best of LUCK, and ME TOO!

I scan my ticket for point to use for the monthly drawings. Last week I received a notice stating my account my be suspended to to scanning to many tickets that has already been scan, the problem is when I purchase my tickets "It's NEVER been scan" however when I scan my unscan ticket I receive this bold red text on the screen saying "This ticket has already been scan" when it hasn't. So I was taken back when I received a notice stating my ability or right to scan my tickets may be prematently suspended. Totally unfair to send me a message threaten to to suspend my ability to scan my tickets due to a computer glitch that sometimes count my tickets has scan when it hasn't.NC Lottery

What is so hot about the new tickets that came out this month? I bought TEN $10 new tickets in a row from the same stack and won a whopping $10. Ripoff!!! Players are getting pretty ** mad at these new odds. Stop stealing players' money. You're supposed to have a chance to win when you play!!! Hey i wish I had that same attitude as Herman S..I'm sitting here so bummed today after losing another $20 this week. I want to just stop playing but it really is addictive, I don't even know why cause i'm not even winning any money. Ain't this something?! @KEVIN D started criticizing me for being so concerned about the ignorance of and dumb luck of some winners, like, what does it matter to me? IF you'll note, @NC LOTTERY even stepped in to remind everyone to observe the rules and keep it civil, essentially. But now, @KEVIN D gets on here and criticizes the Lottery himself, calling it RIGGED! Criticizing me but turning around and criticizing it himself is hypocritical. Kevin, there is no bias and nothing is rigged. I just started playing second chance game last year and won $500. Nothing since then. The game is not rigged, but it is hard to win, just like any game of chance. You have to be persistent. If you take time to read the winners' stories you will see that winners come from all walks of life, different races, and from all parts of the state. Luck is blind. My only wish for NC Lottery would be that they would make their odds of winning for scratch-off games better. I play scratchers since the lottery started, and I know for a fact that at first it was much easier to win a prize. Today it is mostly the price of the ticket or nothing, even on expensive tickets.

Hello Denver G, you and I are over due for another win on second chance or Lucke-Rewards. Yesterday I combo 822 for one dollar and also played 822 for one dollar straight for the daytime draw. I did not follow-up and played the evening draw and 822 came last night. NO conspiracy or favoritism towards me. It was just not my time to win. Dang KD, you just insulted the integrity of all the winners. I have entered just about every contest since day one 10/01/12 !!! I won once in 2013 for $500. Black, white, brown, red or yellow. Rich, poor. Our religious beliefs. The lottery has know idea who we are. There is NO conspiracy against any of us, nor favoritism towards anyone. IT IS SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE........

Hi @KEVIN D, To ease your concerns, we can assure you that there is no winner bias when selecting a winner for our second-chance or Lucke-Rewards drawings. The Random Number Generator assigns each entry a random number and then picks one of the random numbers. There are no names input into the RNG. It has no idea which players have entered, who they are or if they deserve to win more than anyone else. The results are totally random and fair to everyone.

Hi Mike, sorry about that we were looking at an old report, the current numbers for the Supreme Riches Second Chance drawing are 819,255 entries.

Hi Stephen, if you think these people are not coming forward then you may be a bit naïve. I personally think there is NOT a chosen winner because I can tell you I personally have been playing from the start and have entered thousands of individual entries and NEVER won a single cent and I have spoken to people that have done the same and said they gave up because they too have NEVER won and feel that it’s a rigged game and anyone that does win is somehow vetted through the state to meet a certain criteria i.e. tax history, financial background (public assistance)and many other factors. God forbid they choose people honestly and people that can actually use a financial blessing to get out of debt like many of us. I think if you buy a lottery ticket and win than it should be tax free because you already paid tax on the ticket when you bought it (the tax is already in the price)plus, the state & federal government didn’t put a dime into it.
