RALEIGH – John C. Anderson II of Greensboro beat the odds Thursday night by matching all five numbers in the Carolina Cash 5 drawing to win a jackpot of $380,644.

Anderson collected his winnings Friday at N.C. Education Lottery headquarters. The odds of matching all five numbers in the Carolina Cash 5 game are 1 in 575,757.

After taxes were withheld, Anderson received winnings of $258,838. He bought his winning ticket at the Harris Teeter on Battleground Avenue in Greensboro. His win was the fifth largest Cash 5 jackpot to be won in Guilford County.

From March 30, 2006 through June 30, 2011, Guilford County players have won more than $187 million in lottery prizes and county retailers have earned more than $24.2 million in commissions on ticket sales.

During the same time period, Guilford County education programs have received more than $102 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds benefit teacher salaries, school construction, need-based college scholarships and prekindergarten programs.

To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.11 billion for the education initiatives it serves statewide.
