RALEIGH – Madge P. Lippy of Mooresville and Alton C. Laughman of Lancaster, Pa., shared half of a $257,790 jackpot from the Nov. 26 Carolina Cash 5 drawing.

Lippy and Laughman said they played as friends. Their ticket, purchased at Quality Mart on West Plaza in Mooresville, was one of two that matched all five numbers in the drawing. The other ticket was held by a retired teacher who lives in Wilmington.

Lippy and Laughman each received $64,447, half of their share. After taxes, they received a check for $43,824.

From March 30, 2006 through June 30, 2011, Iredell County education programs received more than $28.5 million in lottery funds. By law, these funds benefit specific programs, including teacher salaries in grades K-3, school construction and repair, prekindergarten programs and college scholarships and financial aid based on need. To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.1 billion for these initiatives statewide.
