RALEIGH – Two tickets sold at Statesville stores won big prizes in lottery drawings held Saturday night. Charles Killian of Statesville has already come to lottery headquarters to collect the $467,073 Carolina Cash 5 jackpot he won. He purchased his winning ticket at Fast Phil’s on Taylorsville Road in Statesville.

A Powerball ticket sold at the Kangaroo Express on Safreit Road in Statesville is worth $1 million. The ticket beat odds of 1 in 5.1 million when it matched all five white balls drawn, which were: 3-10-19-36-46. Players have 180 days from the date of a drawing to claim prizes.

Ticket sales for games such as Carolina Cash 5 and Powerball have enabled the lottery to raise more than $2.58 billion for education initiatives statewide. Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Iredell County education programs received more than $36.4 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.

A Cash 5 promotion that started Sept. 9 offers players five extra chances to win as much as $50,000. In each Cash 5 Bonus Bucks drawings five prizes will be awarded: One $50,000 grand prize, one $5,000 prize, and three $1,000 prizes.
