RALEIGH – A major lottery retailer, Harris Teeter, today donated a $4,000 incentive award it had received for selling a winning ticket for a Carolina Cash 5 jackpot to two Wake County elementary schools.

The Education Lottery awarded the incentive to Harris Teeter after the winning ticket for the Carolina Cash 5 drawing on Jan. 17 was purchased at its South Park Village store in Holly Springs. A Holly Springs woman bought the lucky ticket that matched all five numbers in the drawing and won the $126,958 jackpot.

Harris Teeter district manager Ricardo Smith and store manager Jon Carr presented the check to officials with Holly Springs Elementary and Holly Grove Elementary PTAs at the store. The Harris Teeter Together in Education program raises money for education initiatives to boost returns for education throughout North Carolina. Each school receives $2,000.

“Harris Teeter is proud to reinforce its commitment to education by donating its retailer commission to both Holly Springs and Holly Grove,” said Danna Jones, communications specialist for Harris Teeter.

Jan Farmer, president of the Holly Springs Elementary PTA, said the association planned to uses its share of the donation to help build a new track at the school. Tracy Edick, president of the Holly Grove Elementary PTA, said the association planned to use its portion to build a rock wall for students to use for exercise.

The commission is part of an incentive program the Education Lottery has with its retail partners with the goal of increasing ticket sales and boosting the amount of money the lottery makes for education in North Carolina. The Education Lottery has raised more than $2.2 billion for education initiatives in the state. As of June 30, Wake County education programs have received more than $145 million.
