RALEIGH – Jeffrey Sevacko of Charlotte could not believe his luck Tuesday when he scratched off the $100,000 top prize on his Mega Bucks ticket.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” Sevacko said. “It’s a really good day. This is the break that I’ve been waiting for. I’m going right to the bank.”

Sevacko purchased his lucky ticket at the Kangaroo Express on Charlottetown Avenue in Charlotte. After taxes were withheld, he received a check for $68,001. As of Thursday, six more $100,000 top prizes remain to be claimed in the Mega Bucks game.

Since the lottery launched in 2006, Mecklenburg County players have claimed $215 million in prizes. During that same time, Mecklenburg County education programs have received more than $167 million. To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.2 billion for education initiatives statewide.
