RALEIGH – Tashica Jones of Enfield in Halifax County says she plans to use the $150,000 prize she scratched off on her $150 Grand ticket to pay bills and buy a home for her family.

“I scratched off the whole ticket and then looked it over,” Jones said. “I didn’t realize it at first but when I saw the prize underneath the number 13, my mouth dropped wide open. This is a great relief. I’m going to start house shopping tomorrow.”

Jones said she had won $300 playing Powerball before, but never imagined a win as big as this. After taxes were withheld, she received a check for $102,001. Her winning ticket was bought at the EP Mart on Glenview Road in Enfield. Jones won the final top prize in the $150 Grand game.

Through June 30 of last year, Halifax County players have claimed more than $76 million in prizes. To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.2 billion for education initiatives statewide.
