RALEIGH – Priyank Desai, a resident of Concord in Cabarrus County, plans to use the $200,000 prize he won playing Extreme Green to help pay for medical school.

Desai was sitting in his car when he scratched off his big win.

“I was really just hoping to win my five dollars back,” Desai said. “I didn’t believe it. I kept hoping that it was true. It will hit me in a few days, I think. It feels like I’m dreaming.

Desai purchased his winning ticket at the A&S Food Mart on U.S. 64 East in Thomasville. After taxes, he received a check for $136,001.

As of Thursday morning, three top prizes remain to be claimed in the Extreme Green game.

Since the lottery began through June 30, 2011, Cabarrus County education programs received more than $39.6 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, need-based college scholarships and financial aid and prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds.
