RALEIGH – James Stockton, a resident of Salisbury in Rowan County, plans to take a vacation with the $303,256 prize he won in the July 7 Carolina Cash 5 drawing. He matched all five numbers to win the jackpot.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Stockton said. “I played Cash 5 because I wanted to see if my odds were better. It sure looks like they were. This is a good day.“

With his winnings, worth $206,214 after taxes, Stockton also plans to save for the future. The ticket was purchased at the Village Grocery and Garden Shop on Highway 601 North in Salisbury.

Since the lottery began through June 30, 2011, Rowan County education programs received more than $26.2 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.

To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.45 billion for these initiatives statewide.
