RALEIGH – Huong Van Dinh, a cosmetologist from Creedmoor in Granville County, plans to pay off his car loan and start a business after winning $169,207 playing Carolina Cash 5. Dinh matched all five numbers in the Jan 10 drawing.

Dinh, who picked his numbers based on recent winning Mega Millions and Powerball numbers, was at home on Friday morning when he realized he had won the jackpot.

“I couldn’t sleep so I looked at the numbers on my phone,” Dinh said. “I recognized those numbers and was very excited.”

After taxes were withheld, Dinh received a check for $115,062. He purchased his winning ticket at the Hasty Mart on N.C. 56 in Creedmoor.

“Cash 5 is my favorite game,” Dinh said as he collected his winnings. “It gives you a better chance to win. I’m very happy.”

Ticket sales for games such as Carolina Cash 5 have enabled the lottery to raise more than $2.58 billion for education initiatives statewide. Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Granville County education programs received more than $13.3 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
