RALEIGH – Eunjoo Kim, a resident of Matthews in Union County, is the second player to claim a $200,000 prize in the new Power 7’s game.

“I thought it was a joke at first,” Kim said as she collected her winnings. “It’s nice and very exciting.”

Kim plans to use her winnings, worth $136,001 after taxes, to pay bills. She purchased the lucky $5 ticket at the 7-Eleven on Idlewild Road in Stallings.

Power 7’s is part of a suite of “seven-themed” games that launched earlier this month, which includes Ruby Red 7’s and Lucky 7’s. As of Thursday morning, four $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed in the Power 7’s game.

Ticket sales for games such as Power 7’s have enabled the lottery to raise more than $2.58 billion for education initiatives statewide. Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Union County education programs received more than $55.3 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
