RALEIGH – Amy Rowland of China Grove is the latest player to win $250,000 playing Mega Millions.

Rowland beat odds of 1 in 3.9 million when she matched all five white balls but not the yellow Mega Ball in the Oct. 8 drawing.

“I feel very excited,” Rowland said as she collected her winnings on Wednesday. “I’m just in shock.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Rowland received a check for $170,004. She purchased her lucky ticket at Steve’s Corner Store on N.C. 152 West in China Grove.

This Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is $37 million if taken as an annuity or $25.2 million as a lump sum.

Ticket sales for games such as Mega Millions have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $2.9 billion for education programs statewide. Details on how more than $32.5 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Rowan County are available on the “Where the Money Goes” page on the lottery’s website.
