RALEIGH – Rickey Jackson, a paint contractor from Hurdle Mills, said he was excited to win $100 and $100,000 playing the lottery on Sunday afternoon.

“I was sitting at home watching the football game and scratching some tickets,” Jackson said. “I scratched off a $100 prize on a Junior Big Ol’ Bucks ticket. Then I watched the game a little more and then scratched off the $100,000 prize. I had to go ask my mom to see if it was right. It felt really good.”

Jackson said he plans to use a portion of his winnings, worth $68,001, to make improvements to his home and help his family. He purchased the lucky tickets at the Winners Food Mart on North Madison Boulevard in Roxboro.

Jackson is the first player to win the top prize in the $5 Ultimate Crossword game. Four more $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

As of September 2013, the lottery has raised more than $3 billion to support education programs. Lottery dollars support teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction and repair projects, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, college scholarships and financial aid based on need and digital learning initiatives.
