RALEIGH – Vickey Reynolds of Chesnee, S.C. and Ricky Jolly of Spartanburg, S.C. were shocked to learn that they had matched all five numbers in the April 8 Carolina Cash 5 drawing, winning the $100,456 jackpot. Reynolds and Jolly work together at Spartanburg Steel Products and enjoy playing Carolina Cash 5 every week.

“I was sitting there taking a break around 12:30 in the morning and I decided to check my numbers,” Jolly said. “I thought the numbers looked familiar, and then it hit me.”

Jolly immediately walked over to the Quality Assurance department to find Reynolds and tell her the good news.

“I started hollering,” Reynolds said. “I had to catch myself. I was excited, but I didn’t want everyone to know.”

The two friends each received a check for $34,159 after state and federal taxes were withheld. Reynolds plans to use a portion of her winnings to purchase a new car. Jolly said he will use the prize money to enhance his retirement fund.
The lucky ticket was purchased at the Chase Community Store on Chase High Road in Forest City, just a few miles from Reynolds’ residence.

“I like playing Carolina Cash 5 because there’s a winner every few days and the jackpots get bigger,” Reynolds said.

Ticket sales for games such as Carolina Cash 5 have enabled the lottery to raise more than $2.6 billion for education initiatives statewide. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
