RALEIGH – On Thursday afternoon, David Settle of Winston-Salem claimed his third big scratch-off win since 2010. The retired home builder won a $100,000 prize playing the $4,000,000 Gold Bullion game.

In November 2010, Settle and his wife split a $3 million prize playing the $200 Million Extravaganza game. Almost a year later, in October 2011, he won $100,000 playing the same game.

“It felt about the same as the last time,” Settle said on Thursday. “I was just in shock. I couldn’t believe it.”

Settle plans to use a portion of his winnings, worth $68,006 after taxes, to travel and help his children.

“It feels good to know that there are winners out there,” Settle added. “I don’t know how to explain it, but I’ve been really lucky.”

Settle purchased the lucky $4,000,000 Gold Bullion ticket at the Pit Stop on South Main Street in Winston-Salem.

“Everybody has to have a hobby,” Settle said. “Mine is playing the lottery.”

As of Friday morning, two $4 million prizes, five $1 million prizes and six $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed in the $4,000,000 Gold Bullion game.

Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Forsyth County education programs received more than $80.5 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and college scholarships and financial aid based on need.

To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.8 billion for these initiatives statewide.
