RALEIGH – Someone who played Powerball in Charlotte won $1 million in last night’s drawing. A lucky ticket, which beat odds of 1 in 5.1 million to match all five white balls drawn, was sold at the Oakhill Deli & Grill on Oakdale Road.

The winning numbers for the drawing were 2-11-26-34-41 for the white balls and 32 for the red Powerball. No ticket matched all six numbers, causing the jackpot to roll for a 13th straight drawing. North Carolina Powerball players have won more than $6.5 million in total prizes during the jackpot run, including four $1 million prizes.

Players have the chance to win the second-largest Powerball jackpot ever in Saturday’s drawing. If just one ticket wins it all, the jackpot could be claimed as a $550 million annuity or a one-time cash payment of $350.1 million. The current Powerball jackpot record was set last fall when a $587.5 annuity was on the line in the Nov. 28 drawing.

A Powerball ticket sold in Charlotte for the May 11 drawing is worth $10,000 and has yet to be claimed. The ticket, which matched four white balls and the Powerball to win the prize, was sold at Sam’s Mart #7 on Beatties Ford Road. Another unclaimed ticket for that drawing, worth $1 million, was sold at the Ingles Market on Leicester Highway in Asheville.

Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday. The game is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. North Carolina has had three Powerball jackpot winners of $74.5 million to $141.4 million.

Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Mecklenburg County education programs received more than $210.9 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.

To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.8 billion for these initiatives statewide.
