RALEIGH – Phillip Hicks of Pittsboro is the first player to win the top prize playing the lottery’s $200,000 Extreme Cash game, which started May 28. With his win, three top prizes of $200,000 remain to be claimed. Hicks purchased the winning ticket, worth $136,000 after taxes, at the Lake Jordan Mart on U.S. 64 East in Pittsboro.
Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Chatham County education programs received more than $13.7 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and college scholarships and financial aid based on need.
To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.8 billion for these initiatives statewide.
