RALEIGH – A Triad family is sharing the $1 million Powerball prize won by a ticket for the May 25 drawing. The winning ticket, purchased at the Quick N Easy on Burlington Road in Greensboro, beat odds of 1 in 5.1 million to match all five white balls drawn.

The $1 million was divided among four members of the Murray family. Robert and Annie Murray, a couple from Greensboro, received $350,000 apiece, making their shares worth $238,000 each after taxes. Their daughter, Nichelle Murray of Burlington, and son, Rodney Murray of Greensboro, received $150,000 apiece, making their shares worth $102,000 each after taxes.

In Saturday’s Powerball drawing, players have the chance to win an $85 million jackpot if taken as an annuity or $52.1 million if taken as a lump sum.

Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Guilford County education programs received more than $127.6 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.

To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.8 billion for these initiatives statewide.
