RALEIGH – Roland Bersch Jr., an 83-year-old dance instructor from Fayetteville, plans to use the $150,000 he won playing the lottery to share with his children and purchase a new car.

Bersch, who has taught dance for the past 60 years, scratched off the lucky Mega Money Multiplier ticket on Friday while standing in Pan’s Thai Market on Hope Mills Road in Fayetteville.

“I thought I had read it wrong,” Bersch said. “I asked the lady at the store and she looked at it and told me I had won. I didn’t think it could be, but I am just elated.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Bersch received a check for $102,001. As of Monday afternoon, one more $150,000 top prize remains to be claimed in the Mega Money Multiplier game.

Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Cumberland County education programs received more than $97.9 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and college scholarships and financial aid based on need.

To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.9 billion for these initiatives statewide.
