RALEIGH – Kenneth Massey Jr., a resident of Monroe, plans to use the $100,000 prize he won playing the $10 MONOPOLY game to save for his daughter’s education.

Massey learned of his big win while sitting in his car after purchasing his lucky ticket at Sam’s Mart on East Independence Boulevard in Indian Trail.

“I started scratching and I saw the money bags,” Massey said. “I started hollering and dancing when I realized I had won. You always wish something like this will happen, but you can’t believe it when it does. It comes from out of nowhere.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Massey received a check for $68,003.

“I could do a couple of flips right now,” Massey said as he collected his winnings.

As of Tuesday afternoon, three $1 million top prizes and three $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed in the $10 MONOPOLY game.

The $10 MONOPOLY game is part of a suite of games that launched on March 26. All four games, priced at $1, $2, $5 and $10, are eligible for monthly second-chance drawings featuring cash prizes up to $10,000. Every entry is also automatically applied towards a MONOPOLY Super Entry. The MONOPOLY Super Entry Drawing, which occurs on July 31, will feature a $1 million prize. A “super entry” consists of a non-winning ticket entry from each of the four new MONOPOLY games. The deadline for entry into the drawing is July 24. On-line entry forms and additional information can be found at www.lucke-zone.com.

Since the lottery began through June 30, 2012, Union County education programs received more than $55.3 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and college scholarships and financial aid based on need.

To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.9 billion for these initiatives statewide.
