RALEIGH – Anthony Marks, a regional manager for a mental health agency in Goldsboro, said he plans to use the $568,550 prize he won playing Carolina Cash 5 to pay off his mortgage and retire. Marks matched all five numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing.

Marks learned of his big win on Thursday morning when he checked his numbers while getting ready for work.

“I saw the numbers on TV but only thought I had matched three at first,” Marks said as he collected his winnings. “But then I saw the last two. I still can’t believe it’s real.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Marks received a check for $386,614. He purchased his lucky ticket, which beat odds of 1 in 575,757, at the Hasty Mart on Miller Chapel Road in Goldsboro.

As of June 2013, the lottery has raised more than $2.9 billion to support education programs.
