RALEIGH – Swannanoa resident Jonathan Martin’s $5 lottery ticket turned it into a $100,000 win in the Cold Hard Cash game. He bought the lucky scratch-off ticket at the Quick Trip #3 on North Louisiana Avenue in Asheville.

After required state and federal withholdings, the after-tax value of Martin's prize totaled $69,201.

Martin is the second person to win the top prize of $100,000 playing the game. As of Friday afternoon, three more $100,000 prizes, and many other prizes, are still in the game.

As of September 2013, the lottery has raised more than $3 billion to support education programs. Lottery dollars support teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction and repair projects, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, need-based college scholarships and financial aid and digital learning initiatives.
