RALEIGH – Lillie Williams, an administrative assistant from Camden, plans to save for her son’s college fund after winning $338,342 playing Carolina Cash 5.

Williams beat odds of 1 in 575,757 when she matched all five numbers in the Sept. 26 drawing. She learned of her good fortune when she checked her numbers at the Duck Thru Food Store on U.S. 158 in Camden.

“I knew I had won the day after the drawing,” Williams said. “But I wanted to wait for the excitement to die down before I came in to claim the prize. It gave me time to figure out what I was going to do with the money.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Williams received a check for $234,132. She said she also planned to use a portion of her winnings to pay bills and go on a Disney vacation later this year.

“I’m overjoyed,” Williams said as she collected her winnings on Thursday afternoon. “My jaw is going to be sore from smiling this much.”

As of September 2013, the lottery has raised more than $3 billion to support education programs. Lottery dollars support teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction and repair projects, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, need-based college scholarships and financial aid and digital learning initiatives.
