RALEIGH – Willie Leach of High Point is the first player to win the top prize in the lottery’s new game $250,000 Cash Money.

Leach won one of six $250,000 prizes in the game, which started on Tuesday. As of Friday morning, five top prizes remain to be claimed.

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Leach received $173,001. He purchased the lucky $5 ticket at The Store on Oakview Road in High Point.

As of September 2013, the lottery has raised more than $3 billion to support education programs. Lottery dollars support teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction and repair projects, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, need-based college scholarships and financial aid and digital learning initiatives.
