RALEIGH – Kinston resident Arnecia Selby rung in the new year by winning a big Carolina Cash 5 prize. Selby beat odds of 1 in 575,757 when she matched all five numbers in the Jan. 1 drawing, winning the $242,557 jackpot.

Selby purchased her lucky ticket at the C Mart on Greenbriar Road in Kinston. After taxes were withheld, she received a check for $167,849.

As of September 2013, the lottery has raised more than $3 billion to support education programs. Lottery dollars support teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction and repair projects, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, need-based college scholarships and financial aid and digital learning initiatives.
