RALEIGH – Margarita Mink, a McDonald’s manager from Clayton, said she plans to use the $386,019 jackpot she won playing Carolina Cash 5 to make some investments, some home repairs and go visit her family in Spain.

Mink’s Quick Pick ticket, which beat odds of 1 in 575,757, matched all five numbers in the Sept. 26 drawing to win the jackpot. She learned of her big win after checking her numbers at the Food Lion on U.S. 70 West in Clayton, where she made her lucky purchase.

“I’ve not been able to see my family in a long time,” Mink said. “I’m so happy that I may be able to go to Spain again. This feels really great.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Mink received a check for $267,125. Carolina Cash 5 drawings occur nightly at 11:22 p.m. Tickets cost $1 each and jackpots start at $50,000.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.4 billion for the state. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
