RALEIGH – Bonnie Gardner, an art teacher at J.W. Seabrook Elementary School in Fayetteville, said she plans to use the $1 million prize she won playing $200 Million Blowout to help her family.

Gardner is the second player to win a $1 million prize in the $20 game. She purchased the lucky ticket at the Tobacco Road Outlet on Cedar Creek Road in Fayetteville.

“This is a good feeling,” Gardner said as she collected her winnings on Friday. “I was happy before winning and I’m happy now. This money won’t change us.”

Winners of $1 million in the game have the option of claiming it in $50,000 payments as a 20-year annuity or a one-time lump sum of $600,000. Gardner took the cash option and received a check for $415,206 after state and federal taxes were withheld.

As of Friday afternoon, four $4 million top prizes and 14 $1 million prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.5 billion for the state. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
