RALEIGH – Linda Hammock, an addiction counselor from Chapel Hill, is the latest player to win $1 million playing the $120 Million Cash game.

She scratched off the lucky $20 ticket after purchasing it at the Calvander Food Mart on Dairyland Road in Chapel Hill.

“I was just in a state of disbelief,” Hammock recalled. “It feels pretty amazing.”

A $1 million prize in the game can be claimed in 20 annuity payments of $50,000, or a one-time payment of $600,000. Hammock opted for the lump sum, worth $415,206 after required state and federal withholdings.

As of Thursday afternoon, one $3 million top prize, one $1 million prize and two $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion for the state last year. For details on how $39 million in lottery funds have made a difference for specific education programs in Orange County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
