RALEIGH – Jakequlyn Dalton, a textile worker from Madison, plans to use the $100,000 she won playing the $5 MONOPOLY game to purchase a new car.

Dalton scratched off the lucky ticket on Saturday evening after purchasing it at the Mayodan Marathon on North 2nd Avenue in Mayodan.

“I got in the car and started scratching and thought I had won ten dollars,” Dalton said. “Then I thought I had won $100. Then I saw that comma and I started hollering right there in the parking lot.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Dalton received a check for $69,201. As of Monday afternoon, one $100,000 prize remains to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.19 billion for education programs statewide. For details on how more than $26.5 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Rockingham County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
