Stephen Wright of Charlotte is the second person to claim one of two $2 million Powerball prizes won in the March 1 Powerball drawing.

After taxes were withheld, Wright received a check on Wednesday for $1,384,000. He said he planned to use the winnings to meet some “immediate needs” and then invest the remainder for his future.

The other winner from Charlotte was John Ames who claimed his prize on Tuesday.

Both tickets, purchased at the Circle K on Pineville-Matthews Road in Charlotte, matched all five white balls in the drawing. Because they were $3 Power Play tickets, both were worth $2 million.

As of December 2013, the lottery has raised more than $3.19 billion to support education programs. Lottery dollars support teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction and repair projects, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, need-based college scholarships and financial aid and digital learning initiatives.
