RALEIGH – Terry and Angela Wallace of Rock Hill, S.C. plan to use the $235,540 prize they won playing Carolina Cash 5 to save for retirement and share with their grandchildren. Their Quick Pick ticket was one of two that matched all five numbers in the March 13 drawing to win half of the $471,080 jackpot.

“I looked at the computer to check the numbers,” Terry said. “I saw that I had matched two numbers, then three, four and then five. I even reset the computer and turned it back on again to make sure the numbers didn’t change. This sort of thing doesn’t happen every day, but it feels really good.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, the couple received checks totaling $162,993. Terry purchased the lucky ticket at Petro Express on Clanton Street in Charlotte.

The second winning ticket from the March 13 drawing was purchased by Tracy Sheils of Lillington, who claimed his half of the jackpot on March 17.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.19 billion for education programs statewide. Net proceeds are used for prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction and need-based college scholarships and financial aid and digital learning.
