RALEIGH – Billie McLean, an HVAC mechanic from Fayetteville, plans to use the $104,069 he won playing Carolina Cash 5 to add a sunroom and a new deck to his home. McLean’s Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers in the Thursday’s drawing to win the jackpot.

“My wife wrote down the numbers from WRAL this morning,” McLean said. “I looked at my ticket and said ‘Guess what? We are winners.’ It felt great. I have a few less gray hairs today.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, McLean received a check for $72,016. He purchased the lucky ticket, which beat odds of 1 in 575,757, at the Kangaroo Express on McArthur Road in Fayetteville.

“I’ve always wanted to hold one of these big checks,” McLean said as he claimed his winnings on Friday. “I’m so happy. It’s amazing. An amazingly good feeling.”

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.19 billion for education programs statewide. For details on how more than $115.8 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Cumberland County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
