RALEIGH – Gilbert Hamrick of Kings Mountain won $100,000 playing the lottery’s Cold Hard Cash game. He scratched off the top prize on the $5 ticket after purchasing it at Kangaroo Express on Cleveland Avenue in Kings Mountain.

After state and federal taxes were withheld, he received a check for $69,201. As of Thursday afternoon, two more $100,000 top prizes remain to be claimed in the Cold Hard Cash game.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.3 billion for the state. Net proceeds are used for prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, digital learning initiatives, need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
