RALEIGH – Amy Franke, a sales representative from Leland, plans to save for her children’s college education after scratching off the $150,000 top prize in the Green & Gold game. Franke learned of her big win after purchasing her lucky $5 ticket at the Buy and Go located on Ploof Road in Leland.

“I especially enjoy playing the scratch off games because you find out if you’re a winner instantly,” Franke said as she collected her winnings Friday afternoon. “I looked at my ticket every day after winning because I still couldn’t believe it.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Franke received a check for $103,801. She said she also plans to use a portion of her winnings to take a family trip to Disney World.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.3 billion for the state. Net proceeds are used for prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, digital learning initiatives, need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
