RALEIGH – Cory Mcneill, a carpenter from Erwin, plans to use the $110,832 jackpot he won playing Carolina Cash 5 to jump start his carpentry business and pay off his mortgage.

“I felt like dancing, jumping, running, and hollering,” Mcneill said. “I am blown away. I knew I was going to win, I just didn’t know when.”

Mcneill said he was at the store Friday morning when he found out that his ticket matched all five winning numbers in Thursday night’s drawing. He purchased his lucky Quick Pick ticket Thursday at the Short Stop on South 13th Street in Erwin.

“I like playing Cash 5 because EZ Match makes it more exciting,” Mcneill said as he collected his winnings Friday afternoon. “It gives me two chances to win.”

Cash 5 players can add the EZ Match feature to the game for an additional $1. The feature provides an instant win ranging from $2 to $500 if an EZ Match number matches one of the player’s Cash 5 numbers. After state and federal taxes were withheld, Mcneill received a check for $76,696.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.4 billion for the state. Net proceeds are used for prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, digital learning initiatives, need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
