RALEIGH – Winston-Salem resident Austin Bradshaw, a meat cutter at a local Harris Teeter, plans to use the $269,010 jackpot he won playing Carolina Cash 5 to take a trip to Las Vegas and make some investments for the future.

Bradshaw’s Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers in the Aug. 19 drawing to win the jackpot. He checked the numbers on his computer the next morning – and found out he won big.

“I got so excited,” Bradshaw said. “I checked the numbers a few times then I just started screaming and hollering. It’s a blessing and it proves that it can happen to anybody.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Bradshaw received a check for $186,156. He purchased the lucky ticket at 4 Brothers on Lewisville-Clemmons Road in Clemmons.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.4 billion for the state. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
