Beginning Sunday, North Carolinians who enjoy lottery games will have a choice of a new draw game, All or Nothing, that will offer chances twice a day to win a top prize of $250,000.
The $2 game has a unique feature. Players win the top prize if they match all 12 numbers drawn or if they match none of the numbers drawn.
“Imagine if in bowling you got as many points for a gutter ball as you did for a strike,” said Alice Garland, the lottery’s executive director. “That’s not the way to win a bowling tournament, but getting none of the numbers is a way to win a top prize in this new lottery game. Match all. Match none. Either way wins.”
Drawings will be held daily at approximately 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and the results will be posted shortly afterward on the lottery’s website.
“This will be our first new draw game in four years,” said Garland. “We want to keep lottery games fresh and interesting. All or Nothing makes our overall portfolio of games stronger, and the additional sales will help us reach a goal of raising $520 million this year for education.”
To play All or Nothing, players can pick their own 12 lucky numbers or do a “Quick Pick” by letting the lottery terminal choose numbers for them. The game offers 10 ways to win with prizes that begin at $2 and go to $250,000.
The odds of a $2 win are 1 in 5.5 and the odds of winning the top prize, either by matching all of the numbers or none of the numbers, are 1 in 1.35 million. Players who match 1 of the 12 numbers or 11 of the 12 numbers will win $500. The odds of a $500 win are 1 in 9,390.
North Carolina’s All or Nothing game will be played only in the state just as Carolina Pick 3, Carolina Pick 4, and Carolina Cash 5. North Carolinians also have a choice of playing either of two multi-state jackpot games, Powerball or Mega Millions. Ticket sales for draw games have helped the lottery raise more than $3.4 billion for the state.
