Tiffany Furr of Laurinburg and Ashleigh Gibson of Laurel Hill say their good luck of winning $150,000 in the Golden 7’s game means new cars and more money for savings

Furr and Gibson, who are partners, shared a win that occurred at Nic Pick Kwik on U.S. 74 in Laurel Hill. Gibson, who works as a clerk at the store, encouraged Furr to try her luck with lottery games. Furr said she bought three tickets and the third, the Golden 7s, was the lucky one.

The two each received $75,000 each. After tax withholdings, each got a check for $51,938.

“It feels great,” said Gibson of the win. She said they each planned to save and invest part of the winnings.

The game started in July with 10 top prizes and, as of Tuesday afternoon, three remain to be claimed.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.5 billion for the state. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
