RALEIGH – Joseph Richardson of Warrenton had the only ticket to match all five white balls in the Dec. 29 Carolina Cash 5 drawing, winning him the $146,029 jackpot.

He purchased the lucky ticket, worth $102,585 after required state and federal withholdings, at the Extell Barity Mart on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Norlina.

Carolina Cash 5 drawings are held nightly at 11:22 p.m. Tickets cost $1 each and jackpots start at $50,000. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 575,757.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion for the state last year.
