RALEIGH – Willie Mae Lisenby, a retiree from Fayetteville, says she will use the $1 million she won playing $1,000 Mayhem to travel and save for the future.

“It’s been one of my favorite games for a while,” Lisenby said as she collected her winnings on Friday. “It’s my very favorite now. I still can’t believe I won. It’s so exciting.”

Lisenby purchased the lucky $10 ticket at the Reilly Road BP Amoco on North Reilly Road in Fayetteville.

A $1 million prize in the game can be claimed in 20 annuity payments of $50,000 or a one-time payment of $600,000. Lisenby chose the lump sum, worth $415,503 after required withholdings.

As of Monday morning, two $1 million top prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how $133 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Cumberland County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
