RALEIGH – Rocky Mount resident Gregory Carroll, a supervisor at a local tobacco processing plant, said he plans to invest in a college fund for his daughter and make repairs to his home after winning $196,676 playing Carolina Cash 5.

Carroll’s Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers in the Oct. 5 drawing to win the jackpot. He was at home on Tuesday when he learned of his big win.

“We were watching the news on WRAL and I saw the numbers,” said Carroll. “I looked at my ticket and I just sat there in disbelief. I’ve never won anything before. It’s the best feeling ever.”

Carroll purchased the lucky $1 ticket at the EP Mart on Old Carriage Road in Rocky Mount. After taxes were withheld, he received a check for $136,198.

Tonight’s Cash 5 jackpot is $66,000. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 575,757.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how $36 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Nash County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
