Phillip Barber of Reidsville said the good luck that led to a $100,000 lottery win means he can pay off all his bills and take his family to Disney.

Barber bought one $5 ticket at the L&S Fast Stop on West Harrison Street in Reidsville and was standing in the store’s parking lot when he scratched the ticket and saw it was a lucky one.

“I had to double check,” Barber said. “I thought I was going to faint. I couldn’t believe it.”

After federal and state tax withholdings, Barber received $69,251. He said the fun part of the win would be taking his wife and three children to Disney World in Florida.

The Mega Bucks game started in August with 10 top prizes of $100,000. As of Tuesday, four remain to be claimed.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how $30 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Rockingham County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
