North Carolinians can watch a retired bank manager from Hickory compete on the MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB™ TV game show this weekend, land on “GO” and collect $1 million.

Part of this weekend’s show features the retiree, Elizabeth Davolio, as she first wins $100,000 playing a mini-game, Bank Buster, and then risks the prize to compete for the $1 million. In four rolls of the dice, Davolio makes her way around the MONOPOLY board and then, on a 5th, rolls the lucky “7” she needed to land on “Go” and win the game’s top prize.

“It was certainly a wonderful opportunity and show,” said Davolio. “Dreams do come true.”

Davolio said she plans to use some of the winnings to take her family to Alaska where her father served at a radar station during World War II and buy a new car. She said she would also help the local theater where she volunteers and her Elks Lodge which raises money to help veterans.

Davolio’s story of great luck began as she beat the odds to win the chance to compete on the show in Las Vegas, not once, but twice. She was one of six North Carolinians who won the trip in a June 30th drawing, but she couldn’t go because it was scheduled at the same time as her mother’s 93rd birthday party in Rochester, N.Y. “I said, “Well, it’s just not meant to be,’” she said. “I had my tickets. There were plans. I just couldn’t do that. I’m lucky to have her at 93.”

So Davolio kept the family commitment, but decided to keep trying to win the trip. In a drawing on Sept. 15, she won again. She said one of the hardest choices in the game involved deciding if she should give up the $100,000 she won in the mini-game of the show – $50,000 for her and $50,000 for others in her section of the audience – to try for the $1 million prize in the main game on the MONOPOLY board.

“I said, you know what, I’m never going to have an opportunity like this again,” said Davolio. “All I could think of was that everyone in my section would be so annoyed with me.”

Davolio won a total amount of $1,018,756, including the trip and other prizes in the TV game show, and received $700,733 after the required federal and state withholdings.

Actor Billy Gardell (“Mike and Molly,” “You, Me and Dupree”) serves as host of the show. The game show is carried by four stations in North Carolina. Here are the stations and the days and times when the show featuring Davolio’s win will be broadcast.
