A stop at a Harris Teeter turned into a lucky one for a Union County man as he became the first person to win the top prize in the Gold 7’s game.

The winner, Michael Michalski of Waxhaw, claimed his $200,000 prize Wednesday. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he received $138,501. He purchased the ticket at the Harris Teeter on Albemarle Road in Charlotte.

The N.C. Education Lottery launched the game in October. Three $200,000 prizes remain unclaimed.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how $91 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Union County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
